First day on the road! It was supposed to rain, but it turned out to be a beautiful day, partly sunny and very windy! We got on the road around 9:30 after Stan dropped us off in Ashland, VA. We mostly cycled on country roads past farms (with cows!) and only passed through one town! That one town provided us with cold water which was a bonus! We each drank about 3L of water today, so don't worry... we are staying hydrated! We stopped about every hour for a quick snack and lunch was a giant apple with peanut butter and dried fruit.
We didn't ride that far today because we were lucky enough to find a FREE place to stay! Mineral, VA has a bicylce friendly volunteer fire department who were so hospitable! We were spoiled with hot showers, a nice place to camp, great company and as I write, our clothing is in the dryer. Now you can/should understand why we only cycled 48 miles, can't pass up this oppertunitly.
Looking forward to a great night sleep and some more beautiful country scenery tomorrow!
