LAST DAY OF KY! We entered state number three today! Or state number 4 depending if you count our detour to Tennessee.
We got on the road and ate our usual breakfast this morning except that we were as hungry as a pack of wolves around 9am. About 20 miles into our ride we found a café that served all you can eat pancakes for 4.99! We stopped and devoured 5 pancakes each like it was no big thing! I never thought I would see the day that I could eat 5 pancakes as a second breakfast! I wasn't even overly full!!
We got back on the road and we were chased by a few more dogs... typical KY! We were so excited about going to Illinois because to cross the state line we were going to take a ferry over the Ohio River from KY to a town called Cave in the Rock, IL. Joe was so thrilled he exclaimed "I like ferries", to which we both started laughing. Um, okay, Joe... do you have something you want to tell me? Do you like princess fairies with sparkly pink wings? He quickly clarified he meant ferries of the boat kind, not the girly kind.
The ferry was a nice relaxing trip. We waited about 10 minutes for it to arrive and the trip was only about 15 minutes over the Ohio River. When we got to the town Cave in Rock, we figured there had to be a cave in a rock somewhere so we set out to find it! It wasn't as impressive as Mammoth Caves, but still a pretty neat stop.
We cycled 10 more miles to the next town, Elizabethtown, which had nothing! The couple who owned the bed and breakfast in town allowed us to camp out in their back yard, use their toilet and showers, and enjoy the swimming pool/Jacuzzi for only $10! The pool was so nice and cool and the Jacuzzi felt so nice on our tired muscles!
We fell asleep before the sun even went down around 8pm! So glad to be out of KY!!

PS Mom, I'm still alive.
