We woke up bright and early to get started on the road. We quickly came to Lexington, VA where we stopped at the library, the local bike shop, and got our weekly dose of history by visiting "Stonewall" Jackson's tomb.
After the small city we continued down country roads with more beautiful scenery. We enjoy looking at all the local buildings and houses! As we were cycling down one back country road a small bear ran out in front of us and into the woods!
By the end of the day we were exhausted and we stopped in Troutsville to look at our map and see if there was a campsite nearby. A friendly man named Cecil pulled up next to us in his truck and asked us if we were tired... obviously a rhetorical question because we definitely looked tired! We asked him if there was a camp ground nearby and he pointed to his truck that read "park maintenance".
He showed us right to the park, we took a shower and did laundry in the fire house across the street and we went to the local market to pick up some tilapia for dinner! A FREE campsite... we were so excited!
Troutsville is referred to as a "trail" town because not only does the cross country bike route (76) go right through it but so does the Appalachian trail! We met two hikers who also camped in the park with us and we talked for a long
time!
It was such a beautiful night that we ended up "cowboy" camping, meaning we didn't even set up our tent, we just slept in our sleeping bags under the pavilion. Overall a good day!
