WE FOUND THE PACIFIC OCEAN TODAY!!! We made it to the Oregon coast and it is beautiful!!!! We are so happy we decided to bus to the west coast and finish up the trip here, it is so much better then biking the mid west! I don't think I mentioned this, but I have to be back in VA on Aug. 15th. We made our plane reservations for Aug. 13th from LAX. We have about 28 days to make it approximately 900 miles! Plenty of time!!!
Joe and I already decide that we are going to live in Oregon. I know, I know, I just got a job in VA, but AFTER that we are going to move out here!! We absolutely LOVE it here! Everything is gorgeous and the towns are so nice! It's so different then anywhere we have ever been and we can't wait for more to come! In Oregon I feel like you get the best of all worlds, the ocean, mountains, forests, everything is so close! In the morning it has been just as cold as we expected. It gets down in the low 40s at night so we are very grateful for our warm sleeping bags and long sleeves. In the afternoon its still chilly, it never really gets above 60 and it's very breezy but perfect cycling weather!
When we were cycling in Illinois we had to get up at 5 am so that we would cycle before the afternoon heat. It works the opposite here. We have to sleep in so that we miss the morning cold!!
Today we met Kaeley, another cyclist! Today was her first day on the road and she is also cycling down the west coast to San Diego! We plan on camping with her tonight and we swapped numbers so that we can meet up again! Joe and I are hoping that she is around the same pace as us so that we can have a cycling companion!
Make sure you are checking out our pictures every day! We want to stop all the time to take a picture but if we did we wouldn't get anywhere! The scenery is breathtaking and it really can't be captured in a picture! If you every get a chance you HAVE to come to the west coast and get a look for yourself!
The pros of the west coast, other then how beautiful it is.
1) Campgrounds are $5... that's what I'm talking about!
2) There is a campground every 10 miles.... we don't even plan our days anymore!
3) people say cool phrases such as "solid" and "for sure"
4) The weather rocks!
5) Cousin Rob lives here!
Mary and Joe
PS Mom, I'm still alive and moving to Oregon!
