Today was supposed to be just as hot as yesterday so we tried to wake up early and get on the road! It was pretty hot but there was a nice breeze and when we were moving it wasn't bad... so we just kept cycling!
The water was a lot better today so we were able to fill up at gas stations and convenient stores again! Today was an uneventful day in terms of meeting new people but there was still pretty scenery to look at. On the positive side we weren't chased by any wild dogs today and we didn't have to use our dog spray! The past few days in KY have been filled with crazy dogs chasing us down the street!!
Some of you non-cyclists have been wondering the logistics of cycling as a pair. For the most part, if we are on a back road we can cycle next to each other and the outside cycler can fall back if a car approaches. Sometime we are required to cycle one in front of the other and in that case we usually take turns. Although we are both in charge of directions the front cyclist has to communicate quickly with the back cyclists. We usually do this by quick calls such as "bump", "gravel", or "car-back/up". Joe is a little more descriptive than I am and he will differentiate between a "dip" or a "hole". I won't be surprised the day he calls back to me saying "hole, 3 inches by 5 inches"! When I cycle in front I leave a little more mystery. I only have two calls in my vocabulary and they are "AHHH" and "EEEEE". Joe is the lucky one who gets to find out what they actually mean but at least he knows something is up ahead!
